For decades, New York City public servants devoted their lives to this city, teaching children, protecting neighborhoods, responding to emergencies, maintaining essential services, and caring for the people of New York.
In retirement, many now face a crisis they never expected: mounting medical bills, copays, deductibles, and healthcare costs imposed after retirement despite decades of service under promises of secure healthcare, betrayed by our former unions and City.
The NYC Retiree Legacy Fund was created to help.
This fund exists to provide financial assistance and emergency support to retirees struggling under the weight of medical debt and healthcare-related expenses. It is also a way for supporters, friends, family members, and fellow New Yorkers to honor the work and sacrifice of the generations who built this city.
Why This Fund Matters
Retirees are living on fixed incomes while facing healthcare costs they never anticipated. Some are delaying medical care, rationing medications, or struggling with bills simply to make ends meet.
No retiree who served this city for decades should have to choose between healthcare and groceries.
The Legacy Fund was established to provide assistance to NYC Public Service Retirees who are members :

Many supporters of the retiree movement have asked how they can contribute in a lasting and meaningful way. Supporters recognize the organization's advocacy saved their lives and they wish to continue that legacy since many were with us from the beginning. Membership in the Legacy Fund Circle is reserved for benefactors making contributions of $10,000 or more in support of retirees facing financial hardship and medical debt. You can be named as a beneficiary or be anonymous, either way, you are fortifying a retiree force that looks after NYC Public Service Retirees.
